Mike's narration at the beginning, with its mention of "Sometimes you're only safe when you're locked up" (or words to that effect) didn't become clear to me until that moment at the bus stop. That bus driver was probably thinking "I didn't see nothin'. I gotta schedule to keep. Bye."

One wonders who in the world actually lives in Kingtown, other than the PD, the assorted bad guys, the prison guards, and the ones who feed off all those elements. I'd be gone in a heartbeat, even to Chicago or Detroit.

I wish I hadn't spent all that time in my agency, when I could have joined CFD and made Battalion Chief without being a Captain, or being a Paramedic Battalion Chief and bypassing District Chief completely to become Deputy Commissioner. Then again, the supervision on this show is in its own world. Stella, there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't have met with DDC Boden immediately on return to detail out what happened. Get that monkey off your back and let someone else make the decision, because you don't have the moxie to go up in front of a public hearing and tell them "I run my crew the way I want, and I handle the problems." And don't think that management wouldn't yank Boden's promotion if they found out his personnel were hiding a serious incident like that.

After getting severely beaten by some guy that she pulled over for a traffic stop early in her career, she planted enough cocaine in his car to warrant a felony distribution conviction, which cost him 28 years, if memory serves.

Props to the stunt actor who took the faceplant on the rock in Crystal's place. I actually gasped at the impact. And a nice easter egg to the Allman Brothers Band with the "MeetaPeach.com" website. I have no idea if it's actually legit, but I think not.

He could lead with "My middle name is Lee, so I got called Jubal." And that would actually fit right in with his humor.

It was a tightly driven episode. Mr. ex-Army guy is still going to jail for assault, PTSD be damned. I had to laugh at OA and Maggie losing control of a suspect on a pier and having to chase him down. Of course, if he contacts the press and starts spilling a story, it's going to be interesting to see how the State Department spins the story about a couple of murders and the complete destruction of a vehicle in public view and an attack at a public event. "Nothing to see here, folks. Just move on." Does anyone know if the under-vest jackets are a nod to actual tactical gear? I mean, it's way too hot for them otherwise.

I was sure that Reenie would be grabbed at the end there by the Thugs R Us employees of the big bad. That would set up much of next season.

And get it cut, too. Appearances make a difference out in the free world. And I wish the fire crew would quit wearing the grungy, filthy fire clothing all the time, too. That's the first thing that comes off, even before returning to the station/camp. Not to mention it's a helluva big jump from brand new fire captain to Camps Chief. You don't get to bypass Battalion Chief, Division Chief, Assistant Chief, Unit Chief, and Region Chief to get to that office in Sacto. And what is this "My crew needs me"? No, they don't. They'll work for anyone. You need the crew, Eve. Throwing the propane cannister in the dump brings down the Wrath of Bode, but not even a blip about the guy grinding metal and showering sparks directly above the dumpster? Come on, show. But I'm sure glad that E42 dropped a few hoselines and got that fire put out, instead of watching Bode do his rescue thang. I did like Sharon telling Luke that she wants her DC job back, and look out!

Betty (in Chihuahua-speak): "Hey, producers, you know I'm carrying this show from time to time, and you fly me up from Florida every week to do my scenes. Would it kill you to give a dog a bone and send me to Puerto Rico, even for a weekend?"

  12. S12.E12: Under Pressure

Dowel Jones replied to DanaK's topic in Chicago Fire

E51 took a couple of bullets during the firefight, but that shouldn't really put them out of service immediately. They'd have to get the door replaced, but, hey, it's a plot requirement. There's a whole lot of other stuff to buying another fire apparatus. Mechanics, record analysis, cost analysis, etc. A single lieutenant, even if it's Stella, isn't even going to cover it. Who is Deputy Chief Dixon? I don't see the importance of that comment. Chloe says "I'm going to come down to the station more often." Cruz automatically thinks, "Oh God, what have I done?" Lennox sure got over his termination in a hurry.

I actually liked this episode more than previous ones. Tighter scripting, and not many WTF moments. If Daddy Dumbest thought that his son would have been in the clear just by Jubal destroying the pills, I think his entire casework from the past should be re-examined. More deaths would have occurred, and if the trail had led anywhere near Sonny, DD would have gone down with him. As well as Jubal, really. The FBI needs some work on their scene security. DD shouldn't have been able to get anywhere near that door. I was impressed, though, on the initial break in, that SWAT were actually the first through the door instead of barely protected FBI agents. Jubal's look when DD says "I don't want you at my daughter's wedding" - disappointment hiding pure relief at having to skip a wedding...

Therre was a long-ago TV series called Quincy MD, which starred Jack Klugman as a medical examiner who solved murder mysteries by his trade. Pre-PPE, it often showed him poking into cadavers with just his bare hands and no mask. Eek!
