Contra Costa County Overdose Prevention Coordinator
As an AmeriCorps Member, you will build the capacity of the California Overdose Prevention Network (COPN; copn.org) by supporting the leadership team of a local overdose prevention coalition (Bay Area Community Resources (BACR)). You will help lead a local response to the overdose crisis by implementing intervention strategies known to reduce addiction and overdose deaths. This includes safe prescribing, ensuring access to treatment, and harm reduction. Through service with a local coalition, you will address inequities surrounding vulnerable populations, including but not limited to black and indigenous people of color (BIPOC), people of varying socio-economic status, and people of all genders. You will contribute to the goals of the coalition you serve through activities that will be based on local needs including strengthening coalition partnerships; improving materials that support coalition intervention activities; conducting outreach; organizing and/or delivering naloxone trainings; managing coalition websites and social media platforms; assessing opportunities to enhance equitable services and programs; and creating a coalition database and/or data dashboard. This opportunity will provide skills in logistics, organization, coordination, and interpersonal communication. Members are also part of a statewide member learning community through The Center for Health Leadership and Impact at the Public Health Institute (PHI), the largest AmeriCorps VISTA sponsorship in the Western Region. This opportunity includes ongoing support from VISTA Leads and a monthly series of professional development opportunities, workshops, networking events, and trainings. Member Duties : AmeriCorps VISTA Members serve as a key support to coalition leadership and help build local capacity to turn the tide on the overdose epidemic. VISTA members improve operational capacity and build a coordinated response to the overdose epidemic in local communities by: strengthening program partnerships and community outreach; improving communication materials that support program activities including newsletters; managing websites and social media platforms to establish a strong online presence; assessing opportunities to enhance equitable services and programs; supporting organizational logistics; managing public service events and support efforts to institute ongoing services; and creating program database and/or data dashboard.
